Tips For Buying A Used Car

October 4th, 2011 Posted in Shopping

When thinking of upgrading your current automobile it is very tempting go look at used cars. Used cars will come at a much lower price, obviously, than buying new however don’t be fooled by deals that seem too good to be true as there is usually a catch somewhere down the line.

A very simple piece of advice is to check the bodywork first. By using a magnet you can check if the bodywork has any filler; if it is the original material then the magnet will stick to the side of the car however some used cars for sale will look aesthetically pleasing but will have copious amount of filler.

Request to have a drive around in the car to see how it runs and listen for any unusual noises coming from the engine or when turning the wheel; indeed, some used cars will have leakages somewhere so after your drive always check the oil. If it is not pure black and is instead, lighter than normal then there could be a water leakage and this could prove to be a costly repair.

A simple car HPI check can tell you if the car has been in an accident or is stolen; while it may seem like an unnecessary cost it could save you a lot of financial and legal trouble in the future. Lastly, when looking at used cars for sale always make sure the sellers documentation is in order and that the name on the registration document is the same as the person selling the car; if they are just acting on behalf of the seller then they will be adding money onto the overall price as a ‘sellers fee.’
