High Quality Wheelchair Accessible Transportation

July 27th, 2011 | 1 Comment | Posted in Guides

Disabled people living in big cities and residential areas have to rely on all types of transportation to get to their destinations. Nothing can make you feel more liberated than driving a wheelchair accessible van that has motorized features to encourage independent living. Most auto manufacturers offer handicap vans, however, the purchasers may still not get access to all of the additional add-ons that they were hoping for. Whether you are a busy parent or solely responsible for yourself, having adequate means of transportation will help you to live a better quality of life.

The best wheelchair accessible vans come with automatic lifts and hand controls. Disabled persons that are not able to drive themselves still need vans that can satisfy their needs. Vans with room for large sized medical equipment can help to make long car trips more comfortable.

If you cannot afford to purchase a brand new handicap van, you can always opt to purchase a used van from an authorized dealer. Because vans built for disabled persons have many extra electrical components, you should have your van regularly serviced and checked for mechanical issues. If you have been putting off getting your drivers license because you do not believe that you will be able to find a vehicle that will be suitable for you to drive, make sure that you start to do your research on handicap vans. Your insurance coverage may help to subsidize the costs or pay to have additional features added.

Attempting to modify a standard van into one that is wheelchair accessible can be time consuming and expensive. This is why it is a good idea to purchase one that has already been altered to include all of the most state of the art disability features that anyone with disabilities could ever imagine.

Volkswagen already has a production plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and now Audi plans to follow suit. The German based company has expressed an interest in building manufacturing facilities in the US for some time, but the move would not have been practical until the auto financial bailout in 2008 occurred. Although it will be a few years before Audi is able to build a functioning production plant, it seems that Chattanooga is the best location. With a Volkswagen plant employing thousands of local, Audi will likely get huge tax incentives to raise another plant in the town.

Officials from the city of Chattanooga are reportedly working with a deal with Audi to sell the company thousands of acres of land necessary to build new plants and expand in the future. Because Audi can promise the city a huge number of jobs, lawmakers would virtually be able to guarantee their citizens employment opportunities for years. Audi stands to increase its profit margins by moving many of its production facilities to the US. In the year 2009 alone, Audi was able to improve its revenues by nearly 25%.

The maker of luxury cars has always been able to make more money importing its vehicles to the US, however, with the cost of materials, manpower and building a production facility, it remains to be seen if Audi can keep up with its own pace. The deal between Audi and the city of Chattanooga is expected to be finalized by sometime in the year 2012.
